The Colorado FIRST community is deeply saddened by the loss of Tony English, a revered Board Director and Executive Director, who passed away on June 16, 2025. English, a mechanical engineer and Army veteran, was celebrated for his profound impact on STEM education and his leadership within the Colorado FIRST organization. His journey with FIRST began in 2006, founding a FIRST® LEGO® League team for his children, which grew into Team 4499 'The Highlanders', influencing over 150 students. His dedication earned him the Woody Flowers Finalist Award in 2015, a national recognition of his contributions to STEM education.

Following his passing, the Colorado FIRST Board has appointed Debbie English as the new Executive Director and Board Member. Debbie, who has been a Program Leader for Colorado FIRST and currently serves as the Program Delivery Partner for the FIRST Robotics Competition, is poised to carry forward Tony's vision for expanding access to FIRST programs across Colorado. The Board has expressed unwavering confidence in Debbie's leadership to honor Tony's legacy and inspire future generations in science and technology.
